St. Patricks Day Near White Oak, MD
Are you feeling the luck of the Irish these days? With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, on Friday, March 17, we want to help you prepare for this festive holiday with some activities, entertainment, bars, restaurants, and shopping that are all convenient to our four communities in Silver Spring, MD!
One of the benefits of living in Silver Spring is its proximity to both Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C., with easy access to Route 29, I-495 and the Silver Spring Metro. This year, Baltimore and DC and hosting their St. Patrick’s Day parades on the same day – Sunday, March 12 – so here is some information to help you decide whether to travel north or south.
The 46th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade of Washington, D.C. will begin at noon and proceed down Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets, N.W. The parade route is easily accessible from the Federal Triangle, Archives-Navy Memorial and Smithsonian Metro stations and the grandstands are located between 15th and 16th Streets.
The Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been taking place in the streets of Charm City for over 50 years and the 2017 parade kicks off at 1:15pm with the Annual Shamrock 5K at Charles and
Franklin Streets. The parade itself begins immediately after the race, at approximately 2:00pm, at the Washington Monument and will proceed down Charles Street before continuing to Pratt Street and Market Place.
If you are looking to stay closer to home, or want to enjoy some traditional Irish food, live music, and a pint of Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day, there are two fantastic Irish pubs/restaurants right in the heart of Silver Spring and one just 15 minutes away in Bethesda, MD.
McGinty’s Public House is located at 911 Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring and is a lively Irish owned and operated pub and restaurant with a wide selection of whiskey; traditional décor; an outdoor patio; pre-fixe, brunch, lunch, dinner, late night, and kids’ menus; and live music nearly every night of the week.
The Limerick Pub is located at 11301 Elkin Street in Wheaton, MD, just one block from the Metro. In 2013 it was named by Washingtonian magazine as one of the top 75 bars in the region thanks to it bringing a little bit of Irish culture and traditions to Montgomery County. It features a traditional Irish menu over 30 different whiskeys, a rotating tap, and entertainment throughout the week.
Flanagan’s Harp & Fiddle is located at 4844 Cordell Avenue in nearby Bethesda, MD. It is one of the premier music venues in the region, featuring everything from traditional Irish music to the latest in country and rock. In addition, the menu features traditional Irish and American dishes, there is always cold beer on tap, and TVs throughout the restaurant are typically tuned to international sporting events, including soccer and rugby.
